Florence Nightingale: The Lady with a Lamp

"Nursing is an art...It is one of the fine arts: I had almost said, the finest of fine art." Florence Nightingale

If we had to crown the queen of nursing, it would be non-other than Florence Nightingale, a lady born with a helping hand to the rest of the generation. Florence Nightingale  (12 May 1820 – 13 August 1910), was a lady born in Florence, Grand Duchy Of Tuscany. She was a by-profession statistician, social reformer, and founder of the Nursing occupation.

Florence belonged to a wealthy British family, was named after the city of her birth "Florence." it was her father who encouraged her and her sister into education. Nightingale studies vast subjects such as history, mathematics, Italian, classical literature, and philosophy, and from an early age Florence, who was the more academic of the two girls, displayed an extraordinary ability for collecting and analyzing data which she would use to great effect in later life."

The family moved to London for work purposes where she received the latter from the war secretary to prepare a team for the Crimean war & look after the British soldiers. For her, it was a golden opportunity to serve the community and fulfil her desire.  She served as a war nurse there, without being ashamed of anything. She along with her staff of 28 nurses ( trained by her) including her aunt served the war survivors.

it was the first time in history that women were allowed to serve in the war, it was a great deal for her and she never took a back step. The conditions for war soldiers were so bad. Just as no proper shelter, bed, or proper loos were given to soldiers. there were rats and other insects were everywhere. Everything was so filthy and messy. She worked hard, cleaned the areas, and look after the soldiers with proper care and empathy. Nightingale was so concerned and dedicated that she use to visit soldiers at night carrying a lamp just to look up to them if they needed something. That's why she is named "the lady with the lamp."

The profession of nursing is a blessing to humanity. It should not be considered less than any profession.  Florence Nightingale is a hero of the nursing profession. she is the woman who is considered a Heroin history and shall remain till the end of this world.
